Begin with what they love

Find a style that feels like them.

Look at the jewellery they already reach for. Simple or detailed? Soft curves or clean lines? White metals or warm gold?

Solitaire

One centre stone and a setting that lets its shape lead. Compare the height of the setting, the width of the band and how the ring sits on the hand.

Three stone

A centre stone with a companion on either side. Look at the balance between the stones and the overall spread across the finger.

Halo & detail

Smaller surrounding stones or a detailed band create a different impression. Consider how much sparkle and pattern feels right for everyday wear.

Something individual

A distinctive shape, colour or personal detail can be your starting point. Bring reference images and explore what may be possible through bespoke design.

These are starting points for your conversation, rather than a list of current stock. Contact the team to check available pieces and options.

A clearer way to choose

Start with your priorities.
Then your budget.

There is no need to arrive with a fixed carat weight or a complete brief. Set a budget you feel comfortable with and tell us which details matter most: shape, overall appearance, setting or size.

A quote is easier to compare when you know exactly what is included. Ask about the stone’s origin and any grading report, the metal and setting, sizing, and the price of the complete ring.

For independent background on cut, colour, clarity and carat weight, read GIA’s diamond quality guide ↗.

  • Shape and cut are different decisionsShape describes the outline you see, such as round, oval or emerald. Cut concerns how a diamond has been fashioned and how it interacts with light.
  • Natural or laboratory-grown?Both are diamonds, with essentially the same chemical, physical and optical properties. Their origins differ. Ask which options are available and compare clearly described stones within your budget.
  • Carat is weight, rather than a measurementTwo stones of the same carat weight can look different in size because of their shape and proportions. Look at the whole ring, as well as the specifications.
  • Make room for the settingThe band, setting and finishing are part of the ring’s character and price. Consider the complete design rather than spending the entire budget on one specification.

The details you live with

Think beyond the first impression.

Metal colour, setting height and the way a ring sits beside a wedding band all deserve a closer look.

Metal & colour

Compare yellow gold, rose gold and white-metal options against the jewellery already worn. Ask about the exact alloy, finish and ongoing care of any ring you are considering.

Comfort & lifestyle

Think about work, hobbies and how often the ring will be worn. A setting that looks beautiful in a photograph should also feel comfortable in daily life.

The future pairing

If a wedding ring will sit alongside it, try the two together where possible. Setting height and band shape influence how closely they meet.

Brighton roots. A considered price.

Experience you can sit down with.

Anthony Edwards’ Brighton jewellery story began with Scorpio in 1976. Wedding Rings Direct followed in 2000, growing from New England House without the cost of a high-street shop.

Our move to Ship Street in 2023 brought that experience into the heart of Brighton. Competitive prices and personal guidance remain central to the way we work.

A little more clarity

Your questions, answered.

Can I visit without knowing which ring I want?

Yes. A few ideas, a comfortable budget and a sense of the wearer’s style are enough to begin a conversation. Call or email before visiting if there is a particular shape, stone or style you would like to discuss.

What if the proposal is a surprise?

Tell us at the start. We can talk through ways to approach the choice discreetly. If you are unsure of the ring size, ask for advice before committing, and confirm the sizing options for the particular design.

Do you offer natural and laboratory-grown diamonds?

Ask our team about the options currently available for your preferred design. Any quote should make the stone’s origin clear, together with the relevant details and any accompanying report.

Can I create a bespoke engagement ring?

Bring your ideas to the team. Our bespoke jewellery page explains how to prepare for that conversation and the details to discuss before a commission.

How far ahead should I start?

Let us know your intended proposal date as early as you can. Availability, sizing and bespoke work can affect the timescale, so the team will need to confirm what is possible for the ring you choose.
