Our story runs from Scorpio on North Street to Wedding Rings Direct and our home on Ship Street today. At its heart is Anthony Edwards, with more than 50 years of experience in the jewellery industry.
Alongside his son Alex and our experienced showroom team, Anthony brings that knowledge to WRD Jewellers: personal advice, thoughtfully chosen jewellery and the competitive prices that have always mattered to us.

Anthony’s Brighton roots
1976
The Scorpio years.
Scorpio opened in 1976, the year Anthony’s son Alex was born. Its name came from Alex’s mum’s star sign, giving the shop a personal connection to the family from the very beginning.
At 160 North Street in Brighton, Anthony spent almost two decades running the shop. Those years behind the counter connect the business we run today with the city’s longstanding jewellery trade, and help explain the importance we place on knowledgeable, personal service.
Wedding Rings Direct
2000
Expertise, with value at its heart.
Anthony founded Wedding Rings Direct in 2000, bringing his jewellery experience to a new way of shopping. The ambition was simple: help people find the right ring, with expert guidance and a fair price.
Based at New England House in Brighton, the business grew online without the overheads of a high street shop. Keeping those costs down helped us offer high-quality rings at very competitive prices.
That focus on value became central to the WRD story. It still guides us today.
Our next chapter · 2023
A new home on Ship Street.
In 2023, we moved into our shop at 32 Ship Street, bringing the WRD experience into the heart of Brighton’s Lanes.
Here you can see jewellery up close, try it on and talk through your ideas with people who know their trade. For an important purchase, that time together can make all the difference.

Anthony’s son Alex works alongside him to lead the business. Involved with Wedding Rings Direct from the beginning, he has extensive knowledge of the jewellery industry and is very much part of life in the shop, helping customers explore their options with confidence.
